As far as punishing her, that's the way it was done when I was growing up in the 50's. For some families, adoption was out of the question, even though that would have been best for the child. The attitude was since you made the baby, then you will have the baby, and you will also care for the baby. That rarely worked well for anyone concerned. As far as mom's regret, her age at the time of the story would be 48, so if she had any regret at all, it would be because for her, 'the party's over'. She wanted to be free, to have fun, and do as she pleased. Well, she did, briefly, and now it was time to pay the piper.Joycehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03275503653927579472noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-497164028438533435.post-72355668281246337272019-01-11T18:30:00.275-06:002019-01-11T18:30:00.275-06:00Nicely built emotion. By the time she met her moth...Nicely built emotion. By the time she met her mother I was ready to swat her too. Good dialogue with the townspeople to get some more background. Her mother certainly suffered late in life, I assume an STD. Too bad the parents made her keep the baby, even if just for two months. Possibly to 'punish' her. I'm not sure about the regret, though. I didn't see any hint of that in her mother's waning years. Mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04631797915121524407noreply@blogger.com
